If you happen to be at Laïka (and you should, as it’s a pretty happenin’ place…errr), open up the music player of your choice iTunes for now. You should see a playlist called Ile sans Fil (the funny accent doesn’t render happily here, we’ll have to fix that).

Click on it, and access local audio and video content. It’s that simple, and runs very smoothly (do let us know if it has a case of the hiccups. It might be that it had too much of the excellent brews you can indulge in there.).

Trivia : name as many montreal bloggers as possible that can be seen on the pillowfight flashmob video used in that screencap.

“open up the music player of your choice. You should see a playlist called Île sans Fil”

AFAIK, denki, iTunes is the ONLY player that will “discover” that there is a network-attached storage area available locally. I have tried Windows Media Player and Winamp in Laika with no joy. Maybe in later versions of those players?

Currently only “Bonjour / Rendez-vous” enabled music player will be able to “discover” the “IleSansFil – HAL Project” music feed.

ITunes is one of the easiest to install and there is no support for those protocol in Windows Media Player or Winamp yet.

As a sneak-preview, the R&D departement is currently working to implement a compatible lightweight music player in the captive portal interface.

    hmmmmmmm…

It wasn’t my intention to misguide anyone… I was under the impression that if someone had zeroconf/bonjour running, winamp/amaroK/something could see the shares. Apparently not so, sorry for the n00b misconception.

In any case, iTunes works VERY well. A friend saw it in action and did this face :

    Then this face :

And said to pass on the “good job!” congrats. (so, good job! keep at it! ;) )

Pascal – I really think the video streaming is a cool feature of this, it would be great if that, too, could be included in the captive portal.
