Ile Sans Fil is proud to announce that it has submitted to the App store, the Ile Sans Fil app for Iphone and Ipod Touch. After many months of collaboration with the Kolt Production company, we are finally able to offer a simple and fast tool to search free hotspots for greater Montreal.
For this first version, which there will be others, we’ve concentrated on search of hotspots for people who are mobile. You’ve just finished a meeting, riding on a bus or a car and you want to find a calm resting place to enjoy a cup of coffee and surf the web? This app is made for you!
On the map of Montreal you will see the hotspots closest to your actual location, green icons means hotspots online, red icons means offline. A simple click on the hotspot will bringup information such as address and directions on how to get to this hotspot.
To keep you informed as to the latest news about Ile Sans Fil, we’ve added a section called “News” from our blog site. Social network functions enables you to send information by email and other blogging sites such as twitter.
Detailed Features:
- hotspot search by address(street name and number, postal code)
- Geolocation of hotspots closest to your actual location
- Realtime display of hotspots that are online or offline
- Detailed information of Hotspots with postal codes and telephone coordinates
- Direct directions to each Hotspot
- News section about the latest happenings at Ile Sans Fil
- Email sharing, Twitter, and other social network media
- Totally Free bilingual application
- No intrusive advertising
- This application is open source and reusable under the Apache 2 license
The application will become public on the App Store (2 to 8 weeks the app is live!), we will submit a version 1.1 with functions you will admire, but for now its a secret. We would like to thank all the beta testers who tested the first versions. A huge thanks for the work done by Alexis, Martin and the dynamic team of Kolt Production.
If you have suggestions for improvements, we’re glad to state that the application is open source code. Which means you could transform it as you like. Go ahead, don’t be shy.

Looks great! Do you have a link to the (open) source? I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
@Olivier: We will soon publish the source on http://trac.ilesansfil.org.
Am I understanding this correctly or this won’t work with Ipod Touch?
I was hoping, when I submitted the idea of an ISF app to ISF many months ago, that it would include a way to have the latest hotspots in a map. That way I could find the closest hotspot without actually being connected to a phone system.
I know it wouldn’t be the very latest hotspots and they may not be connected that particular day, but still…
Right now, I have in my Ipod Touch the PDF file of all the hotspots…not very user friendly!
Anyway, please confirm that this app is only for people that already have an internet connection (sic!) and wouldn’t be useful for Ipod Touc users.
Please do create a version for Ipod touch users as well (offline maps of hotspots, even if not the very latest/actual open connections)
Thanks
@ Macfisto: The very first version will not be optimised for iPod Touch… but, the 1.1 version will have special functions for iPod Touch, like offline map of ISF hotspot.
We will publish the 1.1 version on December 1st 2009. More info in the next week.
Thank you for your feedback
Ok great! Thanks! Can’t wait…and keep up the good work!
